I love going to raves. The first rave that I went to was
with my friend Tim along with his friend from high school. I spontaneously
bought a ticket to Foam Wonderland. I bought the ticket so that I could go see
my number 1 favorite DJ and producer, 3LAU. This was during my sophomore year
of college. I remember going to the concert in Tim’s car. And we were blasting
songs from 3LAU. At that time, there were so many unreleased songs that I
wished to hear at the concert. So, I played the a few of unreleased songs on
the Aux cord. I got a hold of the unreleased songs from Soundcloud because of
other people uploading them from the other 3LAU concerts that they went to. I
also remember that this was during the time when passing the aux cord was a
serious thing. Now, everyone just connects their phones to the car’s Bluetooth
system to play their songs on Spotify. Oh yeah, this is the era where everyone
is using Spotify as their main source of music. Back to the main story. When we
got to the concert, it was really early. So not a whole lot of people were
there. There were food concession stands, but we all ate before we came. The
opening DJ’s were alright. We danced and jumped casually. But right before 3LAU
came on stage, I took my phone out to record the concert. I’m laughing at
myself for being THAT GUY that everyone keeps rolling their eyes at. I was so
into 3LAU. I wanted to be able to have a way to relive the concert after it was
finished. So, I ended up recording a majority of the 2 hr long concert.
Everyone rolls their eyes at you if you record the whole thing because they
just want everyone to be in the moment and have a good time. Plus, phone
cameras can sometimes block their view of the stage, depending on how and what
angle the person is holding it. Anyways, since the concert was called Foam
Wonderland, there were people on stage towards the sides on the left and right
to shoot out foam from the foam canons towards the crowd. I was all covered in bubbles and
foam multiple times because I was standing in the middle section of the concert
grounds. After a while, I began to feel
cold and shook my body like crazy. At raves, it’s really crowded, like shoulder
to shoulder crowded. So, in order to stay with your friends and not get lost,
it’s typical to see friends holding each other’s hands and “train chaining”
through the crowd to get to different places. Well, I remember seeing a my
friend Kathy’s shirt which was a UTA FSA shirt. I was like “Hey they’re from
UTA!” Kathy was “train chaining” along with Emily and some other friends. That’s
when I first met them. And then, I saw my other friend Dianne, who was completely
mentally out of it. I think she was drunk. For the ending song, 3LAU played his cool remix of The Chainsmoker's song "Don't Let Me Down". And as he was playing the song, fireworks were booming up in the sky all around. I thew my hands up and swayed to the slow, but punchy drum song. It was a really vibey feeling and cool scenery at the same time. After the concert, I was walking
towards the exit with Tim and his friend. But then, I found yet another friend,
Angelina and chatted with her for a little bit. We laughed at how stupid and fun we acted during the concert. Then we took a picture
together.
In Methods of Montage, it explains how there are different ways to create a montage. An example is a rhythmic montage. This is when the scene changes according to the change in music, i.e. drums. The difference between a tonal and an overtonal montage is that the overtonal montage seeks to give you this physiological perception, while tonal montage gives you the emotional feel of a piece. I think that there should be more studies/research on overtonal montages because I think that there could be so many more uses for it.
